It all started with the happy intuition of Nerio Alessandri from Cesena, who used to go to his local gym and felt that a machine to strengthen muscles was missing in the fitness section. In October 1983 he finished the first prototype with the help of two friends, a carpenter and a varnisher. Success was just round the corner.
This is how Technogym was created; the “wellness company” and the world’s number two in the production of equipment for gyms and medical rehabilitation. Today Technogym has 1,400 direct collaborators (of which 450 abroad), 12 international subsidiaries in Europe, America and Asia and 85% of its production is exported to over 100 countries.
More than 35,000 wellness centres in the world and about 20,000 private houses just in Italy are equipped with the machines produced by this company in Romagna; this equipment has also been used for training by Michael Schumacher and the Italian football team at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
A curious fact: if you look for the meaning of the term “wellness” in English you will soon find out that it does not exist. This term in fact is not at all Anglo-Saxon and was invented about ten years ago by Technogym’s collaborators to define the company’s target market.
Today “wellness” is a Technogym registered trademark and is commonly used to mean “wellbeing”. America’s “Fortune” magazine elected Technogym as one of the top 10 “Great Places to Work” in Europe.
